Next day we got up early. We had breakfast in the hotel´s dining room. We ask Tamara, to fix a lunch box for us, because we were headed for a long hike through the Dana Biosphere Reserve, eager to see some wild animals.
The descent on the rocky road took us about one hour. Before we reached the valley, we met the Bedouin with sheep and goats. He invited us to have some Bedouin tea with him. We accepted his invitation and went with him to his tent.
There was another Bedouin, who spoke English a bit better, so the conversation was a bit easier. He told us, where to find gazelles and showed us where and how they lived.
It was time to move on. It was very early in the morning and the sun was already very hot.
The valley was beautiful. We hiked about 8 km towards Feynan Ecolodge and we still haven´t found any animals, except some bugs, butterflies and lizards. No gazelles or vultures. So we stopped for lunch.
The sun was really hot and there was practically no shadow anywhere. We didn´t have much water left, so decided to go back to the village. We came back exhausted and dehydrated, so we called it the day. We spent the rest of the afternoon exchanging our experiences with our new friends, we met at the village.
The next day, we went to take a hike to the camp Rummana near by. We took a taxi to take us to the camping site. The site is protected, so we had to check in and buy a visitor´s ticket. After that the "bus" picked us up.
Firstly we had a short walk through the camp with the manager. He explained which direction to choose to find some animals. The camp is located at the top of the hill with view over Dana Biosphere Reserve. People who spent the night here woke up with unforgettable experience. The manager claimed, that animals come very close to the tents in the morning and in the evening.
Our hike began with a marked road, which was faced to the valley the whole time. We still haven´t seen any wild animals, so we climbed some rocks.
And there he was. As if he was waiting for us. Catching warm sunbeams - the rare blue lizard.
Excited that we finally found something, we headed back to the camp. On the way there we found a cabin for bird watching. We stopped for a while.
As we returned to the camp, one of the employees showed some more birds, which are typical for this area.
It became late and we were tired and hungry. Therefore, we went back to the Dana village.
Greetings,
Jerneja & Boris
